15,750 Hz
Ok, experiment time. Who here can hear this? Put on headphones if you’re in a noisy place, like an office. Turn it up. There’s a small click or two in there, don’t mind it.
This is what I hear in any relatively non-noisy place whenever there’s a TV on (at least CRT televisions). If you can’t hear it, congratulations. You’ve lost enough hearing to not be bothered. It’s a 15,750 Hz tone. I’ve apparently lost enough to not hear much above about 17,000 Hz. That or my speakers can’t really reproduce it.
I can usually hear it even when the television is at a moderate volume. Drives me nuts. It’s kind of like the sound you hear in your ears after going to a loud rock concert.
If you can’t hear it, but want an approximation, try listening to this 13,000 Hz tone. If you can’t hear that, well, I imagine you ask people to speak up a lot.

Thanks to years of rock concerts I am unable to hear the sound! And to think, some people say that heavy metal has no redeeming qualities.

I can’t hear it either. However, I often smell things other people can’t smell and have them tell me I’m imagining it, only to be proven correct later (dead mice several rooms away, that sort of thing). So at least if a stinky, quiet person is sneaking up on me, I’ll know.

Ugh, I hear it. I know we’ve talked about this before, but this is a good way to demonstrate it.

I can hear it. I guess I failed the final punk rock test. I’m offically old.
Scooter, are you a Pisces?
