Flapping Crane Progress
First — thanks for the input, Chris (down in the post with the code in it). I think I’ve figured it out.
Long story short, I wanted to tag skits on Flapping Crane with the people who were in it. I figured something out. I think it’s basically what Chris suggested.
Anyway, the new site is coming a long nicely. It’s a shame that no one will appreciate what I’m doing. There’s no way for anyone to. It’s all on the backend, with one or two exceptions. But here’s basically what I’ve done:
The entire backend will be object oriented. In other words — way easier to maintain and troubleshoot. The current site is basically a mess. I put it together as I went (though the old povert site was a bit of a guide), so it is kind of a mess. I’ve also moved to PEAR for database queries. And I’ve cut down the number of queries.
No more html files for every skit. This makes me happy. It’s all handled with apache rewrites and PHP. All old links will keep working, and no one will know the difference. But the root directory will no longer be a mess. I can just add a skit to the database, and BOOM. It’s there. Ok, so I still have to upload the skit and 2 pics. No way around that. Still, it rocks.
The “About” page will have links to skits that each person has been in. That’s what the thing with Chris up above was about.
All in all, I’m very happy with the progress. Still, it’s to specific to opensource (who would use it? Other comedy groups?). I wouldn’t mind feedback. Though there are some ugly hacks in there that I’m not too proud of.
It’s a while off. Still need to finish Pics and Links. And I’ve still got to move a couple functions into classes. Not to mention, I’m thinking of going all AJAX on its ass. The problem is that modern browsers won’t let you change the displayed URL. So that may not happen. I’m only concerned about people being able to bookmark specific skits, and I don’t like the idea of displaying “Permanent links”.
Any suggestions, about technical stuff or just ideas in general would be awesome.

May I suggest that you install a flux capacitor? The extra 1.21 jigawats can really give any webpage an extra kick.
Um, okay I’m a dork.
