SY & PJ
Picked up Sonic Youth’s “Rather Ripped” and Pearl Jam’s eponymous CD.
These days, I buy most albums on iTunes. When it comes to certain bands, though, I won’t do that. I really want to own the CD. SY and PJ are easily in that category. Oddly, there aren’t a lot of places around my town to buy CDs, and I don’t get out much, so it took me a while to pick them up.
Anyway. SY’s is great. I love it. It is a pretty mellow, easy-going work. It is oddly reminiscent of a whole range of their earlier work, but it feels new and it’s not stale at all. If you’ve read my blog for any significant length of time or know me at all, you know that I’m a huge, HUGE Sonic Youth fan. And I’m very happy with this album. Very enjoyable. They seem to have hit an interesting point — they’re not too contemplative, but not violent either.
Pearl Jam is Pearl Jam. Awesome as always.

I got PJ’s album when it came out and just downloaded “Rather Ripped” off itunes last weekend that supposedly came with a bonus song.
Both albums are great especially considering SY’s last album which was difficult to listen too and had a lot of instrumental stuff.
NPR had a story on SY a few weeks back where they talked about the bands history and “Rather Ripped” which was suppose to be a pop album that was somewhat inspired by writing a song for the “Gilmore Girls” which Thurston, Kim and the kid all watch.
But the best thing about PJ and SY is that they will both be here July 7 and I got tickets

Lucky you! All I get on July 7 is a damn root canal! Seriously.
